Meander between the pastel houses, above you is a lacework of balconies, the open-air living rooms of Bellagio. Visit Villa Melzi for the glorious gardens. Stroll up to Punta Spartivento for lyrical lake views that seduced creative thinkers for centuries.

Varenna

Home to Villa Monastero, Villa Cipressi and rows of enchanting houses with colourful facades in lemon, ochre and Pompeii red. The Passeggiata degli Innamorati, Lovers Walk, winds uphill through cobbled streets offering seductive views of the lake. Step into San Giorgio church with its black marbled floor and 15th century paintings.

Cascades in Bellano and Nesso

Each village has a rugged rocky pass with a waterfall. Orrido di Bellano can be admired on a series of walkways with the water rushing beneath you. Nesso is an enchanting gem, emerald waters flow by ivy clad homes. The ancient stone bridge has views of the cascade, soul stirring when a hazy mist shimmers in the sunlight.

Menaggio

Stroll along the promenade ornate with palms and floral planting. Reach Piazza Garibaldi the sociable heart of the town. Sip an espresso looking onto the sparkling lake and across to Bellagio. Re-energised explore Castello, the medieval centre. The Castle walls surround a maze of cobbled streets.

Cernobbio

Home to world renowned Villa D’Este and Villa Bernasconi which celebrates Como’s silk-making heritage. Manufacturing flourished from 1,400 when the Duke of Milan planted mulberry trees to feed the productive little worms. Unsurprisingly there is plenty of beautiful silk to buy in Cernobbio.
